The range of attacks for fire-based ability users is limited.
Even the zombies, which have no sense of pain and are ablaze, continue to rush towards them at full speed. Just as the first wave of zombies is about to reach the off-road vehicle, a brilliant bolt of lightning strikes down!
“Boom!!”
The zombie’s head explodes from the high-intensity electric current. The blue-purple lightning, resembling special effects from a sci-fi movie, accurately hits the fast-moving zombies like arrows.
In an instant, the entire zombie horde is annihilated. The off-road vehicle comes to a stop, and praises come through the radio from other team members inside.
“Captain Hua, you are amazing!!”
“You truly are a level five lightning ability user; that’s so cool!”
Jian Lexian looks enviously at Jiang Hua. This is the true strength of a lightning ability user, so different from his own lackluster spatial blade attack power.
The lightning ability is one of the hardest elemental powers to awaken and is also the strongest; even a level one lightning ability is more powerful than his spatial blade. The team members exit the vehicle to collect the crystal cores from the zombies.
A few scattered remaining zombies seem to realize that the people in front are not to be trifled with and collectively change direction, heading towards the sedan behind the off-road vehicle.
The system promptly reminds: [Be careful, they are coming this way!]
As soon as the system’s voice fades, a zombie lunges at them from the side. The vehicle tilts as it is struck.
Tong Sui urgently turns the steering wheel, crushing the zombie beneath the car.
Continually, zombies swarm over, effectively trapping the sedan in place.
Tong Sui steps on the gas, but the sedan doesn’t budge. Just as he tries to restart the engine, a zombie climbs onto the hood.
The windows on both sides are being pounded, rattling violently; with each thud, thick dark blood splatters onto the glass.
The windows develop dense spider web cracks, seeming like they would shatter at any moment!
Tong Sui hurriedly undoes his seatbelt and crawls towards the passenger seat.
Bang!
The glass next to the driver’s seat shatters, shards raining down inside.
Half of the zombie’s body is stuck in the window, reaching for Tong Sui’s legs, making guttural “hissing” sounds.
Tong Sui can almost feel the foul breath coming from it, the sensation landing on his leg through the fabric of his pants.
He anxiously grips the seat back and kicks the zombie hard on the head.
“Get away! You’re so disgusting!”
Tong Sui trembles in fear, pulling his legs back; it seems the rear window won’t hold out much longer either.
The kicked zombie becomes even more excited, forcing its body further inside. Its filthy nails, blackened with grime, claw at him.
Tong Sui curls up tightly in the passenger seat.
Just as the zombie is about to grab him, it is suddenly pulled away with a force, like trash being tossed aside.
At the same time, several bolts of lightning fall.
The banging outside ceases, and the surroundings turn eerily quiet.
A burnt smell fills the air.
Tong Sui hears his own heartbeat, thump, thump, thump.
It’s racing so fast he feels it might leap out of his throat.
Jiang Hua supports himself against the vehicle frame and leans down to look at the curled-up Tong Sui.
With red-rimmed eyes, he tightly grasps the passenger seat back. He looks so small, and a dirty handprint now stains his once-clean pants.
Tong Sui shivers; upon seeing Jiang Hua, tears form in his eyes, turning into droplets as he hugs his knees and quietly cries.
“I thought I would never see you again.”
Jiang Hua furrows his brows slightly.
He should have just pretended not to see anything and walked away.
But it seems his body acted faster than his rational thoughts, reaching in to unlock the car door.
With effort, Jiang Hua forcibly pulls open the mangled door, the faint smell of blood clings to him as he pushes up the glasses that obscure Tong Sui’s face.
“Stop crying, what’s your name?”
The eyelashes hidden behind the glasses tremble, moist like a little pond shrouded in mist after rain.
Jiang Hua is slightly taken aback.
Deep within him, it feels like something is beginning to grow.
Tong Sui opens his arms, tightly wrapping them around Jiang Hua’s neck, resting near his pulse and says, “Tong Sui, my name is Tong Sui.”
Jiang Hua softly answers with a deep “mm,” lifting him out of the car.
Tong Sui shows no intention of getting down.
His body trembles subtly, resembling a frightened little deer.
Jiang Hua is silent for a few seconds, contemplating all the comforting words he knows, eventually reaching out to awkwardly pat his back and speaking in not-so-fluent Mandarin, “Don’t be afraid; it’s okay now.”
Tong Sui does not respond.
He only grips Jiang Hua’s neck tightly, burying his head in his embrace.
Nearby team members are awestruck, “Captain Hua, this is too cool!”
“Saved twice in a row has made me shake with excitement,” one member sighs, “I wish I could be held by Captain Hua too!”
“What kind of fever dream are you having? With your looks, watch out; if Captain Hua hears you, a lightning bolt will strike you!”
“Hey, I’m not that bad, right?!”
“Shh, don’t say anymore,” Wang Tao interjects, “The person is back.”
Jiang Hua walks back holding Tong Sui.
The team members, who were just laughing moments ago, quickly disperse, each putting on a serious face.
Jiang Hua tosses out, “Rest in place for twenty minutes.”
The team members respond in unison, “Yes!”
They watch as Jiang Hua places Tong Sui into the vehicle and closes the door.
A few members huddle together, whispering, “Do you think Captain Hua has feelings for him too?”
“Definitely! When have you ever seen Captain Hua close to anyone like this?”
“If I had Captain Hua’s strength, I would want to carry him around too. He just looks so soft and cute!”
